Bordesley Green is in central Birmingham, due east of the city. In the late 19th century a race meeting was advertised in the local paper, although no meetings had been held in the area previously. The meeting was scheduled to take place in the vicinity of Saltley Railway Station on Monday 6th August 1877 and a five race card was offered. Although a large crowd turned up to the event, no one could locate the course and the only entertainment left was the local pub. It was never discovered who had advertised the races, nor yet their motive, but the only person to profit from the fictitious meeting was the landlord of the pub. Along with a similar situation at Trodmore, a fictitious meeting not covered in this edition, Bordesley Races go down in history as one of the great turf mysteries.
